January of 2013 found me fat, in pain, lacking energy, and just generally feeling awful. Something had to change.
I can’t tell you what it was, or, what finally “clicked”, but, it was time. Past time.
Thanks to the inspiration and success of a good friend I decided to try out the Atkins diet. Low carb – no grains/sugars/starches. I also decided it was time to boot out things like artificial sweeteners and processed foods.
Within a week my constantly flaring IBS was gone. Within a month the knee, hip and tailbone pain that drained the life from me, and would have me near tears nightly was gone. So were the tendinitis, shoulder pain, and constant headaches and migraines.
I had energy! I felt fantastic! AND – I was losing weight.
During this time the husband decided to try a gluten free diet to alleviate inflammation from a chronic shoulder pain problem. Sadly, it did nothing for the shoulder, but, his lifelong asthma was gone. No more asthma meds – inhalers, steroids – gone!
I have 2 high energy, fantastic, crazy boys. One has major food dye sensitivity and does best with little gluten – probably would be best with none. The other? Well, so far he can eat anything! Dirt, rocks, apples from under the couch…whatever….
I stay very low carb and walk the line somewhere between old school Atkins and Paleo. But, no grains, no legumes, no processed sugars, and no artificial garbage. Real foods.
We’re a work in progress. An experiment in health and wellness.
I’m not to goal yet, but, I will be. Soon. I workout, and I love the feeling of being fit, and strong. There’s nothing that tastes as good as feeling healthy feels.
My success – my feel good- has inspired me to want to tell others who think they’re just doomed to feel like crap that things CAN change! You CAN feel good. You CAN kick the sugar craving. You CAN ditch the pain.
Strong feels good. Fit feels good. THIS feels good!
